Fantastic win today for Fernieside, securing their second win in
the five team divisional league cup from 2 games played.
Ferniesdie got off to a flying start when they went 1-0 up on 3
minutes. A long ball through to striker Ryan Gibson from Luis
Ortiz, Gibson rounded the goalie outside the box, turned, and
from 18 yards on the wing fired the ball into the net. The lads'
25th of the season for Fernieside.
2-0 soon followed. This time a pass from Gibson to Burgess, and
the lad fired a cracker into the net from 25 yards. The same lad
made it 3-0, a pass this time from Keith Shields and this time
with the left foot, an unstoppable drive from 25 yards. 3-0 up
inside 15 minutes and that was the scoring completed in the
half. Currie came more into the game, and had a few chances to
pull themselves closer with some fine play from their wingers.
Sadly, a Currie player got a bad injury in the game, we all hope
the lad is ok.
Fernieside squandered several good chances, but the half time
score was Fernieside 3-0 Currie BC.
The second half saw Currie come back into the game. A mistake at
the back from Fernieside, a ball into the box and a tap in -
3-1. At this stage Fernieside upped the tempo in search of more
goals. And they duly did.
Dylan Yardley was brought on early in the second half for
Fernieside and what a difference the lad made. Fernieside went
4-1 up when Gibson got on the end of a loose ball 15 yards out,
and smashed the ball high past the keeper. 5-1 soon followed and
it was a first ever goal for Fernieside for midfielder Dylan
Yardley. Some good play on the wing, a cross from Ryan McKenna,
and there was Yardley to fire low into the net from 12 yards.
Then up stepped Ryan Murray. With the game safe the manager
likes to play lads in new positions, and Murray, usually the
battler of our midfield, we stuck him up front and the lad got 2
cracking goals. The first set up by Yardley and the second by
Gibson to leave the final score Fernieside 7-1 Currie BC. In
fairness the result flattered Fernieside a bit, as on the day
Currie BC played some cracking football.
