MATCH REPORT by Shaun Gibson
23rd NOVEMBER, 2008
Under 15 DIVISION 3
FERNIESIDE 6 1 CURRIE BC

Hard game for both sides, the Fernieside boys in fairness started thinking it was going to be easy, but the score flatters Fernieside today. Currie battled like their lives depended on it, and made Fernieside work for anything we got today.

Currie had a very strong centre midfield and stopped Fernieside's Ryan Murray and Jamie Kelly from playing the type of football they want to. Fernie struggled in the 1st 10 minutes but got 1-0 up in 14 minutes with Gibson setting up Ortiz for his 1st goal for the club. The lad was man of the match today by a mile. Ortiz then set up the 2nd, a cross for Keith Shields to head into the empty net.

The 3rd Goal came from man of the moment, in scoring terms, Niki Robertson. The lad just can’t stop scoring, and today he managed his 2nd goal of the season that has come direct from a corner kick. I have not seen a better corner kick/free kick taker in my 12 years of coaching. Goal of the game came just before half time. A 20 yard shot from Ryan Murray, leaving the goalie no chance.

With top scorer Ryan Gibson starved of any service today, it's good this team can score from all over the park. Relying to heavily on any 1 player is a bad thing for any team, so Fernieside are delighted goals are coming from all over the team.

Half Time 4-0

The 2nd half is a half we will forget with ease. Little football, ruined by the wind and the rain. Fernie managed another 2 goals, a cracking goal by Ryan McKenna and header from Brett Grant. Currie managed a late goal after a mistake in the left back area.

Currie BC can be proud of their efforts, they had a lot of the ball today, and were unlucky with goals conceded and good goalkeeping from Fernie stopper Liam Taylor.

Man of the match for Fernieside was Luiz Ortiz. His 1st start for the side, and he showed why he will be vital as the team go on.
