■ Cameron Young (14)
powers home Tynecastle's third goal
It was fun in the sun for
Tynecastle's under 13 side as they trounced Gairdoch Utd 5-1 to
progress through to the Scottish Cup Final at Airdrie in May
where they will play Albion BC from Aberdeen.
A fabulous first half performance saw
them storm into a three goal lead and there was no way back for
Gairdoch when Aiden Thomson scored his first of two goals to
make it 4-0 early in the second period.
Tynecastle were unstoppable in the
opening period with Jordan Sinclair running the show in central
midfield and the boys in maroon ran riot. The final scoreline
didn't flatter them in any way as they produced another
excellent all round team performance. Goals from Marcus
Campanile, Jordan Sinclair, Cameron Young and a brace from Aiden
Thomson saw them on easy street and they now have the big one to
look forward to on Saturday 2nd May.
Summer sunshine bathed the Camelon
Juniors ground and a large crowd was weaving its way through the
turnstiles to see this semi-final tie as kick off approached.
Music pumped its way from the dressing rooms eventually drowned
out by squad cries of "C'mon Gairdoch' and 'C'mon Tynie'. Then a
loud roar went up as yellow clad referee, Archie Kyle, led the
two sets of players down the steps and onto the pitch.
Accompanying him was fourth official, Joseph Napier, who was
officiating in his 1,003rd minor-grade match.
Tynecastle immediately took the game
to the Falkirk side with the impressive Neil Martynuik whipping
in a teasing ball from the left back position deep into the
Gairdoch box and Sean Elliot just missed with his first time
flick.

Gairdoch were being forced onto the
back foot although they did manage to squeeze a couple of early
corners neither of which came to anything. But the momentum was
towards United's goal and it was no great surprise when the
Edinburgh side took the lead on 11 minutes. Sean Elliot had his
legs swiped from under him wide out on the right hand side, in
line with the 18 yard box. Flame haired Jordan Sinclair took the
resultant kick and swept in a terrific ball towards the back
post where it was met by Marcus Campanile whose downward
header hit the back of the net to send the boys in maroon into
wild celebrations.
It says a huge amount about the team
ethos in this side that at least half the team went to
congratulate Sinclair on the quality of his ball before joining
in with the main party on the other side of the pitch.
Four
minutes later and it was two-nil. Jordan Sinclair was
seeing lots of the ball and this graceful and intelligent
footballer was in the thick of most of Tynie's early play. Ball
after ball was sent out wide to set up another attack. This time
however he found himself on the edge of the Gairdoch box 20
yards from the centre of goal. The bouncing ball wasn't cleared
properly and Sinclair lobbed the ball high over the outstretched
arm of Gairdoch's Andy Cramb into the net.
A minute later and it seemed as if
Gairdoch had pulled themselves back into the game when Ryan
Gillespie crashed a low right foot shot into the bottom corner
of the net but he was adjudged offside just as he wheeled away
in celebration.
Tynecastle were swarming all over
their opponents now and with so much dominance it was only a
matter of time before they made it 3-0. The goal duly arrived on
23 minutes and it was another header that did the damage. A
Jordan Sinclair free kick was brilliantly tipped around the post
for a corner by Andy Cramb. But the keeper could do nothing with
Cameron Young's bullet header from the resultant corner
as the Tynecastle player rose with most purpose to crash the
ball into the back of the net from close range.
Half Time 0-3
Gairdoch made a number of changes at
half time as they tried to get an early reply to give them a
chance in this game. It was a change in keeper that gave them
their first opportunity on 41 minutes when they were awarded a
free kick 25 yards out. Jordanlee Scobbie ran 70 yards to take
the kick himself and the green shirted specialist floated the
ball inches wide of the left hand post.
This game was effectively over on 45
minutes when Tynecastle booked their place in the final when
they made it 4-0. A strong, surging run down the right by Connor
Brydon, who had a fine second half, ended with the Tynie player
hitting a low shot across goal where it was parried into the
path of onrushing Aiden Thomson and he made no mistake
from 4 yards out.

Tynecastle had another good chance on
52 minutes when Andrew McBride, who also enjoyed a great second
period on the right wing, jinked his way past two defenders
before hitting a fizzing shot that whistled just past the post.
Gairdoch had failed to make any real
headway in this match and any time they did the Tynecastle
defence stood strong protecting Cameron Tulloch who every time
he was asked to join the fray showed excellent, safe handling.
But
they did get something to show for their semi-final efforts when
they finally etched a goal onto the scoreboard. A scramble in
the Tynecastle box ended with Thomas Hall prodding the
ball home from close range to give the "home" supporters
something to cheer.
But normal service was soon restored
when the Edinburgh side scored a fifth on the hour mark. A quick
breakaway from deep in their own half sent the influential
Marcus Campanile scampering up the left wing. His shot across
the face of goal was again parried into the path of striker
Aiden Thomson and he swept the ball home before running away
to cartwheels and hand stands in another mass maroon
celebration.
A fine win for Tynecastle that ended
up much easier than many had expected. Albion BC from Aberdeen
now stand in the way of Scottish Cup glory in what should be a
fascinating final at Airdrie's Excelsior stadium on 2nd May.
