ESAFA FIRST DIVISION
LIMELITE HYDRO 2 1 BRIG INN

■Limelite Hydro

After successive league defeats Limelight Hydro went into this Minto Hotel First Division game looking to return to the form that helped them gain promotion in their first season in amateur football, whilst Brig Inn hoped to continue their recently improved run of results.

In the opening minutes, Limelite almost opened the scoring after a long range snap shot from Garry Ferguson narrowly fizzed over the cross bar but their breakthrough came midway through the first half with a period of sustained pressure resulting in a Limelight corner, with a great in swinging cross to the back post found the unmarked Shaun Crichton who peeled off his marker to knock the ball back across  the 6 yard  box. With panic in the Brig defence, the ball fell at the feet of centre half Gary Crichton, who had an easy toe poke from 4 yards to give Limelite the lead.

The first half continued in pretty much the same way with Brig Inn's tricky Billy Kerr controlling the ball and creating a lot of chances which were being cleaned up by the home defence and man of the match Graeme Beveridge, outstanding as stand in right back.

Half Time : Limelite Hydro 1-0 Brig Inn

Brig started the second half positively and played some flowing football.  In particular, Christopher Ingles was impressive with his distribution and was picking up the ball and spreading it about. However, his hard work did not pay off as the Limelight defensive pairing of Ramsay and Cowie managed to break down the visitor's ventures forward.

Despite the attractive playmaking, it took a speculative goal to produce the Brig equaliser as Peter Black lobbed the ball narrowly over the despairing hands of goalkeeper Richard Plasting.

Limelite were not too down-heartened by the equaliser, as Manager Martin Grassick made some tactical changes into a 4-3-3 formation.  Intent on securing a vital three points to get them off the bottom of the table, Limelite battled for every ball and won the majority of them.   It was the home team's turn to start playing football with Fergus Ramsay's tremendous workrate creating the chances for the wing men to push forward.

It was left winger Garry Ferguson, in possibly his best game in a black and white shirt that secured the winner with his direct running and quick feet.  Darting into the box, the ball fell kindly into his path and he dispatched a curling shot from the edge of the box into the far top corner, giving the keeper no chance.

Near the end of the game Brig Inn had to go for bust, pushing four and sometimes even five players upfront in search of another equaliser but with the Limelight defence and midfield being on their game, they held on for a desperately needed 2-1 victory and a welcome three points
