NEWLANDS CFC 4 6 PUMPHERSTON UTD

This game fired into life in only the second minute when Newlands Fraser Fairfield played in Connor Mollon and he broke into the Pumpherston box and smashed the ball past Scott McLean and into the back of the net to put Newlands ahead.

Five minutes later and Nathan Charles broke away from the Newlands defence and was closing down on goal and Alastair Macarthur made superb tackle and then cleared the danger. Connor Mollon then went on another fantastic run but James Johnston made an excellent defending tackle to take the ball off him. A few minutes later and some slack defending by Pumpherston gifted Mollon his second of the day when he fired the ball into the net from close range.

From the kick off Nathan Charles ran through the Newlands defence and when Turnbull came off his line Charles prodded the ball under him and into the net to pull one back. Five minutes later and Newlands threatened again and Pumpherston didn’t deal with the danger and the ball fell at the feet of Fraser Fairfield who slips the ball into the net.

Just before half time Pumpherston pulled another back when Kai Batern hit a cracking shot into the top corner. Newlands went in at half time as deserved leaders leading 3-2.

The second half started much like the first, a corner played in and Pumpherston could not clear their lines and this gifted a goal to Fairfield and he had the easy job of heading the ball into the back of the empty net.

Then James Johnston made a good run into Newlands’s box and hit a shot that was saved well by Turnbull but the rebounds was picked up by Johnston and he put the ball into the net. Then Pumpherston stepped up a gear and applied a lot of pressure on Newlands but they were dealing with the pressure well and Turnbull pulled of a magnificent save when a shot was hit by Angus Nisbet from 20 yards.

Turnbull again came to Newlands’s rescue when he was quick of his line to clear the danger when Pumpherston went on the attack. In the 55th minute John Flynn went through and was bearing down on goal and Turnbull came to clear and smashed the ball off Flynn who managed to keep his composure and scored to level the game.

Five minutes from the end Pumpherston took the lead when Newlands failed to clear their lines and Nisbet hit a shot that was saved well by Turnbull but Nisbet got the rebounds and scored.

Then in injury time Pumpherston sealed victory when John Flynn eased his way through and put the ball past the keeper.
