SPARTANS COLTS 0 4 FERNIESIDE

David Taylor making a good save from a Ryan Gibson Shot

Good 4-0 league win today for Fernieside 15s in this tough league encounter

The game kicked off at 1:45, and the surface was very good, The Fernieside boys couldn’t have complimented the park enough. The new area itself is cracking, and Fernieside were made very welcome on arrival.

Fernieside’s  1st goal came from Luis Ortiz, a cross from Jamie Kelly, the defender didn’t get enough on in, and Ortiz hammered it home from 18 yards, 1-0, great start. 2-0 soon followed, Ryan Murray got the 2nd one, and he beat 2 men in the midfield and fired a cracking 25 yard drive past the goalie, great goal from the man of the match. 30 minutes and it was 3-0, this time, Ryan Burgess collected the ball from a throw in, 35 yards out, turned and hammered the ball high into the net. Cracking strike, up there for goal of the season. The 4th goal was a cracker, some nice play from Yardley and Murray, a pass to Gibson, a cracking through ball from Gibson to Shields and he hammered it low past the goalkeeper from 8 yards.

4-0 at half time.

The 2nd half saw the Gaffa Shaun Gibson make lots of changes. With the game won, and everyone needing some game time, we chopped and changed giving everyone at least 30 minutes today.

Fernieside dominated the 2nd half in terms of play, most was in the Spartans colts half. But a lot of credit on the day to Spartans, as they played a lot better defensively in the 2nd half and still tried to get forward and play football, and  limiting Fernieside to a few long shots.
