HUTCHISON VALE COLTS JUST EDGE PAST CURRIE YC
HUTCHISON Vale Under-14 Colts experienced the highs and lows of youth club football in the space of four days - with the high coming in their hard-earned 1-0 win against Currie Youth Club in a league game on the big pitch outside Currie Youth Centre. This was a terrific wee game of football between two well-matched sides with Christopher Lynch hitting the post with a shot in the opening stages with Dean Miller setting up Leslie Trotter at the other end, but the Colts No 11 shot wide. It was a game that raced, non-stop, from end to end with the only goal coming just before half-time, a shot from Dale Purdie being kicked-off the goal-line by a Currie defender before being picked up by Lee Burnett who sent the ball back over the static home defenders and goalkeeper, Connor Muir, in to the top of the net. That made it 1-0 at the break and the second half was more of all-out attacking football from both sets of players. Currie went close to
getting the equaliser on several occasions but they just could not break
down the resolute visiting defenders. Dale Purdie almost got a second
goal for Vale and, at the other end, visiting keeper, Benjamin Campbell had to
go down bravely at the feet of Dale Murphy to deny Currie an equaliser
they so deserved. Niall Strickland then tested the Vale keeper and Ross
Hume ran in on the Vale goal but the goalkeeper blocked his shot with
his legs and Ross Hume hit the rebound over the bar. In the closing
minutes, Dean Miller was denied the equaliser by a brilliant
back-tackling Lewis McAndrew, who somehow managed to win the clear
the ball for a corner as Miller looked certain to score.
