DALKEITH High
School under-13s claimed their first East and Midlothian SFA title
since 1994 in some style at Tranent, defeating Ross High by 6-1,
writes JOHN FRAME. In the opening quarter it was the home side,
needing a point themselves to claim the title, who dominated
creating numerous half-chances . Dalkeith gradually began to find
their feet but found themselves caught out repeatedly by the Ross
offside trap. After seeing a goal disallowed the visitors got the
opener on 25 minutes and it was a goal worthy of winning any match.
The stylish David Honjigowa collected the ball in his own half,
showed the presence of mind to hold the ball as the Ross defence
rushed out, then ran the length of the park before beating the
home goalkeeper and rolling the ball home into an empty net..
Right on half time Dalkeith doubled their advantage when Reece
Masters shot home from close range. The match was effectively
settled two minutes after the restart when Robbie Martin outpaced
the home defence to shoot home. Ross came close to reducing the
leeway on two occasions but found netbound shots cleared
brilliantly by a hard working Dalkeith defence who were not prepared
to give anything up. . William Robertson found space on the
right to add a fourth for the visitors before Kyle Williamson
scored a spectacular goal to narrow the margin. Dalkeith were not
to be pulled back and before the final whistle both Martin and
Masters claimed their second goals of the day to make the final
score 6-1 and clinch the title.
