THE highly-rated Edina Hibs
under-13 squad beat a very hard-working Leith Athletic
outfit 6-0 at the Jewel in an Easter Region fixture in the
Lothian Buses sponsored leagues. A good crowd turned out to
watch this game in lovely weather in east Edinburgh and
spectators were treated to a very enjoyable game that was
very closely contested, indeed - up until Edina made the
breakthrough in the 28th minute.
The visitors had a few
chances to score in the early stages of the game but once
Edina got to grips with the game they looked the more
impressive side. Their first goal came when big midfielder,
Reece Donaldson, won the ball in the middle of the Leith
half, took it to his left and ran on to power a great
left-foot shot over Leith keeper, Jake Louden, to make it
1-0. There was only one goal in it at the break but when
good match referee, Kristian Wilson, got things underway in
the second period of the game, the home side took control of
the game. Josh Riddell made it 2-0, before Scott Mason added
another goal to put the game out of sight of Leith at 3-0.
Andy Keighren smacked home
another to increase the lead to 4-0 then Jake Stevenson and
the very good Sam Todd took the scoreline to 6-0. Sam also
recorded the miss of the game in the second half, when he
somehow managed to hit the bar from 6yd out with the goal
empty in front of him! Don't 'play it again, Sam'! It was a
tough result for the Leith side to bear, but they look
capable of making great improvement as the season
progresses. Edina Hibs have set a standard for themselves
and, with their confidence at a high level, they look set
for a good run in the Scottish Cup this season - and every
other event they have entered for.
