Roseburn's keeper can only stand
and watch as the shot from Inch Boys Club's Declan Mutch soars
over his head in to the top corner of his goal.
WHATEVER the Edinburgh South under-14
squad had for breakfast on Sunday morning prior to their Scottish
Cup replay against Roseburn at Inch Park certainly spurred them on
to a wonderful 6-3 win!
The visiting side toiled in the
sunshine at this venue as the Inch perfect kids went on a goal
spree! The first meeting of the two clubs produced six goals equally
shared, but Inch were much the better side in this replay in the
glorious sunshine of a Sunday morning.
The first goal came immediately after
the starting whistle from match referee, Tam Carter, and that laid
down the marker for what was to follow - goals galore! Liam Mutch
opened the scoring for the home side and and the shell-shocked
Roseburn kids were 2-0 down in the 6th minute, with on fire Steven
Froude showing his ability to snatch goals in a breakaway.
The young striker from Gracemount
High School had a superb game much to the delight of his dad
watching on the sidelines, who said: "I give him £2 for every goal
he scores, but I don't mind how many he gets throughout the season
as long as it encourages him to keep sticking the ball in the back
of the net!"
Roseburn got themselves back in
contention with Douglas Winning making it 2-1 from a spot-kick.
Stuart Martin restored Edinburgh South's two-goal advantage before
the half-time break when he took advantage of poor marking in the
Roseburn defence to fire the ball past visiting keeper, Fraser Neave.
Roseburn contributed to their own downfall by trying to play an
offside game that did not work.
Shortlly in to the second half, the
score went to 4-1 with the Roseburn defence failing to clear a
dangerous ball in to their goalmouth and Gavin Gillon came in from
the left to smash the ball in to the net off the goalkeeper's hands.
Edinburgh South's fifth goal of the game came from their No 10,
Scott Joppy, who lifted a shot over the visiting defence in to the
far corner from the left of the 18yd box.
With the home side in danger of
running riot, Roseburn stemmed the tide and Callum Nicholls swept
home a cross from the left to reduce the deficit to 5-2. Froude was
causing the Roseburn defenders all sorts of problems, using his
speed to great effect and he added to his personal tally - and
another two quid from his dad - by grabbing a sixth goal for
Edinburgh South.
There was so much going on in this
game with goalmouth incidents galore and Roseburn again lifted their
game with Scottish Under-14 Snooker Champion, Michael Leslie,
getting among the goals when he fired home a good shot to make the
final score 6-3 in favour of the home side to bring down the curtain
on an entertaining wee game of football, at least for the home side
and their fans!

INCH COLTS 2 ESKMILLS BC 4

Meanwhile, while Edinburgh South were booking their place in the
draw for the next round of the Dunfermline Building Society Scottish
Cup, Inch Colts went out 4-2 in extra time in their under-15
Scottish Cup replay against Eskmills at the nearby Double Hedges (Kirkbrae)
Playing Fields.
This education-department owned venue boasts(?) the most
disgraceful changing facilities for teams that I have ever seen
anywhere in my travels. It is asking a lot of young footballers to
leave their clothes and valuables in the awful dressing rooms at
this place. The pitches are at least 150 yards away from the
changing rooms into the bargain.
The first game between Inch Colts and Eskmills in Penicuik ended
at 2-2 and that was the scoreline again at full time in the replay.
Russell Johnstone and Robbie Dickson were on the mark for Inch
Colts, while Callum Morrison and Josh Carter scored the goals for
Eskmills. It was still 2-2 at the halfway stage in extra time, but
John Carter won a penalty when he was brought down in the box and
Michael Linton made it 3-2 with an immaculately taken spot-kick.
It got even better for the visiting side immediately after
scoring from a penalty, with Tom Sanderson scoring a fourth goal
from a rebound off the home keeper. It must have been a long trudge
back up the hill to the dressing rooms for the home side after that
double blow in extra time that ended their interest in the Scottish
Cup. Eskmills, on the other hand, were on the crest of a wave as
they celebrated their terrific win.
