LEITH Athletic managed to
overcome both the elements and a plucky young Fernieside
team at the lovely but windy venue of Peffermill, writes
MATT HUTCHISON.
Fernieside won the toss
and elected to play against the strong wind in the first
half. They must have gone in at half time thinking that they
were in with a great chance after holding the Leith outfit
to 0-0 at half time. Leith however played a lot better
against the wind, keeping the ball down and passing well.
Fernieside were then hit by three goals in the space of five
minutes.
First after 48 minutes
Scott McAuley breaking the offside trap and beating the
Fernieside goal keeper, the same player again finishing of a
great passing move down the right flank, then Craig Dewar
firing in a low shot past the keeper into the bottom right
hand corner making the score 3-0.
In 82 minutes
substitute Chris Riley was brought down in the box and
Steven Radzynski made no mistake from the resulting spot
kick. Fernieside fought to the end and managed a late
consolation goal when a long ball up field was misjudged by
Gary Young and well taken by the Fernieside striker.
The game was played in good spirit by
both teams, and well officiated by referee Mr Duncan from
Rosyth.
Fernieside have a quick opportunity
for revenge as both teams play each other this Saturday
again at Peffermill, this time East Of Scotland cup 2nd
Round.
