TRANENT COLTS BLUE V CURRIE

AN under 13’s league game took place in glorious sunshine in Macmerry and both teams put a tremendous amount of effort into the game. Currie eventually ran out 4-2 winners against Tranent but the game could have gone either way right up to the end.

Currie showed their intentions as early as the 3rd min when they took the lead through a well take goal by Darren Linton. Tranent played a high offside line and this was frustrating the  Currie forwards who were caught offside time and time again. Tranent came close to equalising in the 8th minute when Callum Kempton was just beaten to a great cross from the left by Connor Muir in the Currie goal.

Currie doubled their lead in 23 mins when Christopher Lynch eventually managed to stay onside long enough to run from 40 yards and coolly despatch the ball into the net. Tranent hit back straight from the restart and it took a fantastic double save from Muir to keep out firstly Kempton from 25 yards and then Kyle Williams from point blank range. Currie had another great chance to stretch their lead in 28mins when Niall Strickland somehow shot over the bar from 2 yards following a corner.

Currie struck again in 32 mins when Fraser Thomson beat the offside trap again to easily convert and right on the stroke of halftime Thomson was denied by a great stop by Christopher Smith in the Tranent goal.

Tranent were a completely different side in the second half and really forced the game to Currie. They were practically camped in the Curie half and were rewarded in 45 and 48 mins with goals from David Mcintosh and Williams and as the game wore on, it became obvious that the next goal would be decisive. It came for Currie with 2 mins left when Owen Jarvie shot home from 25 yards to spark huge celebrations in the Currie ranks. There was no further scoring and whilst Currie just about deserved to win, this was hard on the Tranent boys who showed a superb attitude to keep going and never gave up right to the end.

HADDINGTON ATHLETIC V LOCHEND YFC COLTS
Lochend needed all 3 points from this league game to keep up the pressure on the teams above them but couldn’t find the killer touch and the game ended all square at 1-1 for the fourth draw between these two sides this season. The game was a tight affair with both defences well on top. Lochend took the lead in the 16th min when Stuart Gibb finished off a good move to strongly hit home. Lochend then tried to double their lead but Huse Kilic was marshalling his team mates well and Duncan Hay in the Haddington goal was performing well when called upon. Lochend were left to rue their lack of killer touch when Gareth McDermott deservedly hit the equaliser in the 35th min to leave the sides level at half time.

The second half was again nervy and neither team looked like they were going to score again. Lochend had the majority of chances but had left their shooting boots at home. They looked decisive and confident until they got close to the penalty area where their long range shooting was way off target. They were left to rue these missed opportunities as the game ground out with no scoring in the second half.

Haddington Athletic: Duncan Hay, Jack Fraser, Huse Kilic, Adam Szymoszomskyj, Paul Smith, Gareth McDermott, Gary Chymlowskyl, Rory Daniel, Gary Lyon, Stuart Gillies, Michael McKenzie, Keith Groome, Darryl Keillor, Dino Husic
