Tynecastle FC
U15s triumphed 5-1 over Hutchison Vale at Saughton Enclosure on
Wed night writes STEVEN RIORDAN.
This Division
One Eastern Region Youth FA game got off to a great start when
Liam Riordan scored the first goal for Tynecastle after 3 mins
with a well taken penalty. After a long spell of Tynecastle
pressure Hutchison Vale equalised from a corner with the
unfortunate Connor Armstrong heading into his own net
when attempting to clear.
Good work on the
left by Liam Riordan and Ronnie Fleming resulted in his cross
being headed into the net by Lewis Tracey to make it 2-1 to
Tynecastle. Tynecastle continued to press and extended their
lead to 3-1 just before half time with a well taken goal by Liam
Riordan who showed great composure in the box to slot the ball
into the net.
In an attempt to
get back into the game Hutchison Vale continued to pass the ball
well with Kevin Brown in the midfield for Hutchie doing
particularly well but it was Tynecastle who went further ahead
in the second half when good work on the the edge of the box
by Liam Riordan led to another corner which was only cleared as
far as Lewis Tracey who was brought down by a hefty challenge
from the Hutchison Vale defender. From the resultant free kick
which was delivered into the box by Ryan Hall. Calvin Smith
drove the ball home to make it 4-1 to the more powerful
Tynecastle side.
Liam Riordan was
denied his hat trick by some good defending by the ever alert
Hutchison Vale defence but they could not stop Tynecastle
going further ahead when Tynecastle captain Jordan Fyvie
bulleted a header home from another Tynecastle corner to make it
5-1.
Despite
Hutchison Vale having a couple of chances to get themselves back
into the game it ended in an emphatic victory for the Tynecastle
side. Both sets of fans and the players were a credit to the
game which was played in a very sporting manner with both sets
of players and parents and coaches all shaking hands on the
pitch at the end of an exciting game.
Edinburgh City 2 Edinburgh City Colts 0
A little bit of history
was made at the Civil Service Sports Ground when two Edinburgh City
FC youth teams met for the first time in a competitive under-16
league fixture writes IAN MACKAY. Edinburgh City and
Edinburgh City Colts clashed in what was a very special occasion for
the Capital youth club and it was the Edinburgh City players who
recorded a 2-0 win over their club rivals in this Lothian Buses
first division fixture in the Eastern Region Youth FA.
The lovely pitch at the
CS sports ground was the perfect setting for a game that was, as
expected when teams from this club are involved, played in a
sporting and totally enjoyable manner. Bill Christie, chairman of
the Civil Service Sports Ground was among the large group of
spectators and he remarked: It is a good game with the boys
knocking the ball around very well. There are so many good players
involved and you wonder what happens to them all?
From the opening whistle,
Edinburgh City (Whites) took the game to Colts and it 'was all white
on the night' as they went on to record an emphatic 2-0 win. The
Whites mounted better attacks than than the Colts did, but they were
made to work very hard, indeed, before they established the
breakthrough in the last few minutes of the first half. The first
goal, when it came, was the result of a defensive mistake by Colts,
a huge free-kick from the left hurtling in to the Colts goalmouth
and it was not dealt with effectively. Colts' keeper, Andy McQueen,
was helpless as opposition skipper, David Allan, put the rebound in
to the net from a few yards out to make it 1-0.
And, after making the
breakthrough, the Whites made it 2-0 a couple of minutes later, with
Allan again the goalscorer. This was a cracking goal that gave the
Whites a twol-goal advantage at the break, Allan getting on the end
of a great ball across the face of the Colts' goal to volley a
spectacular shot that gave McQueen no chance of saving. In all
respects, that was game, set and match for the Whites. The Colts
worked tremendously hard throughout the second half to get back in
to the game, but their attacks didn't pose any great problems for
Euan Higgins in the Whites goal nor, indeed, for his good defensive
colleagues.
With lots of space on the
big pitch, the Colts committed themselves to attack but that left
Willie Dalziel and his fellow defenders under severe pressure at
times when the Whites attacked McQueen's goal. This was a very
enjoyable game to watch and the two teams in action were a credit to
the Edinburgh City Youth Football Club. David Brand, the club
chairman, was at the ground to watch the game and he said: I intend
being completely neutral on this occasion. It is very special for
the players and they are both good teams. Revealing details of
another major sponsorship deal for Edinburgh City Youth FC, the club
chairman added: We have secured a deal for the whole club with
Bryant Homes. It is worth £10,000 and all the teams in the Edinburgh
City Youth FC will wear the logo of the company. It is a wonderful
deal for our club!
