MUSSELBURGH Windsor’s Kids School Football Tournament takes place at
Pinkie Playing Fields on Sunday, starting at 9.30am and lasting well
in to the afternoon/early evening. In his welcome to the players
from all over the Lothians, Windsor chairman, Scott Robertson, said:
“For many of the young participants it will be ‘welcome back’ as
Musselburgh Windsor stage for only the second time its Kids School
football Tournament at our spiritual home at Pinkie Playing Fields.
The players will undoubtedly enjoy the day, but it is important that
the coaches, supporters and parents do their best to ensure a
friendly and fun atmosphere where players are free to play, relax
and enjoy the tournament. Following the huge success of last year’s
tournament and the very positive feed back from our guests, the club
without hesitation decided to repeat the event again this year. The
Windsor organising group headed by Harry Finlayson is to be
congratulated on their work in preparing today’s tournament. Since
our inaugural Kids Tournament in 2005 the club has strived to
improve its status as one of the biggest and best juvenile youth
Clubs in the country. All coaches have completed the Player
Protection programme ensuring we provide the safest possible
environment for all our young players. Windsor is currently in the
process of designing their own unique football strip, which will be
worn by every age group within the club next season. Having a
uniform strip across the club will further enhance our image and
offer immediate identifiable Club colours. This we hope will shortly
extend to coaches and to a range of Windsor leisurewear. Visitors to
Pinkie may wish to take a glimpse of things to come by walking to
the west side of Pinkie St. Peters’ Primary school. The building
site you see will shortly become the home of Musselburgh Windsor FC.
Under construction is a community facility incorporating eight
changing rooms, first aid room, club room with kitchen, meeting room
and Windsor office. At a cost of £1.3m the new development will
greatly enhance the facilities available to the Windsor players and
coaches and our visiting teams. With improvement taking place across
the club, today’s festival is a chance to celebrate and enjoy the
‘beautiful game’. With the excitement of the World Cup Finals, now
in full swing, it is not beyond a young players imagination to dream
that in years to come they aspire to the biggest stage in the World
and find themselves representing Scotland in the ‘daddy’ of all
football tournaments! Good luck to everyone taking part, as it is
the taking part which is the most important thing, not the
winning!”

*Malcolm Coyle
Award: The Malcolm Coyle award will be presented to the team which,
in the opinion of the referees, has best portrayed the spirit of
friendship and fair play. This award not only recognises the
contribution of the players but also the coaches and parents alike
who make this event so special. Malcolm Coyle signed for Musselburgh
Windsor FC in 1984 at U-11’s and spent 5 seasons scoring goals,
netting around 170 times. During his Windsor time, he trained with
Rangers, Hibs (S-form) before finally signing for Meadowbank Thistle
in 1993. Malcolm tragically lost his battle against cancer in August
2004 at the age of 30. He was married to Lesley for two years.
Malcolm’s illness ultimately prevented him playing the game he loved
so much, but his enthusiasm saw him return to his boyhood Club –
Musselburgh Windsor as a very popular coach. The Team of the
Tournament Award is a tribute to a passionate footballer and aims to
recognize the team and supporters with the best all round conduct,
ability and attitude towards the ‘beautiful game’.
