TYNECASTLE FC under-15s cruised past
a gallant Redpath Albion outfit in their Dunfermline Building
Society Scottish Cup clash at Pilrig Park. Despite a great team
effort from the home club, they could not halt the talented boys
in maroon side as they hammered in eight goals without reply
in glorious sunshine.
Redpath Albion are an ambitious
club and they have produced a 10-year plan to develop their club
in the Leith area. Two councillors are helping club leader Bryan
Maughan and his team of coaches in their bid to become an
important hub in the community in this part of Edinburgh.
Already very much involved
with local agencies working with youth groups, Redpath Albion,
as a club, take a leading role in the Show Racism the Red Card
initiative. They have, however, some way to go to match clubs
such as Tynecastle FC on the football field. Redpath Albion did
nothing wrong in their clash with the visiting side from the
famous Edinburgh football nursery, but the final scoreline was
an illustration in the gulf between the sides.
Tynecastle FC are one of the top
teams in their age group in Scotland and they turned in a very
impressive performance, indeed, as they went on the goal trail.
The goals came at regular intervals and there could have been a
lot more for Tynecastle, but they met stout resistance from home
keeper, Andrew Munro.
The number of saves and blocks
this youngster produced in a wonderful performance was
fantastic. He saved his side from a real drubbing!
Big Rory Burton set the ball
rolling for the visiting team, opening the scoring with almost
contemptuous ease in the 5th minute. Goal No 2 followed in the
28th minute, with Roni Fleming coming in from the left and he
delayed until the home keeper had started to dive, before
chipping the ball over Munro in to the net for another lovely
taken goal. Liam Riordan it was who set up Burton to take the
score to 3-0 when he came in from the right, rounded the keeper
before sending an inch-perfect pass for his team-mate to knock
the ball over the line in the 33rd minute.
Riordan should have scored
himself shortly after, but he fired wide of the target. Redpath
Albion fought for every ball but they hardly troubled Tynecastle
keeper, Kenny Brown, at all. Powerhouse midfielder, Calvin
Smith, hammered home a fourth goal for Tynecastle and, before
referee Stewart Shearer, blew for half-time, Tynecastle made it
5-0 with an absolute classic goal. The visitors won the ball in
midfield and a glorious pass up the right was picked up by Lee
Smith who sent a wonderful cross in to the Redpath goalmouth for
Burton to score again to make it 5-0 at the break.

With several substitutes on the
pitch in the second half, the pattern of the game continued, but
Redpath Albion never gave up the fight. Goals continued to flow
for the super confident Tynecastle outfit, however, Calvin Smith
making it 6-0 and then Fleming beat Munro to a loose ball to
fire the ball in to the empty net to make it 6-0. To their great
credit, the home side did test Brown on a few occasions, but
they could not produce the finishing touch to find the back of
the Tynecastle net.
To set the seal on a great
individual performance, Calvin Smith hammered home the eighth
goal for the rampant Tynecastle side before the final whistle.
